Puppy Kindergarten

This class is for puppies 10 to 17 weeks of age. The class is designed to get the puppy off to the right start. The puppy will learn how to interact with people by sitting to greet, how to bite nicely, etc. The puppy will play with other puppies providing socialization with other puppies. The class lessons cover how to teach sit, down, stand, walk on leash and come.

Owners will learn how to teach their puppy in a positive and proactive manner. They will learn how to deal with the typical puppy problems (chewing, barking, mouthing, jumping up, etc.). Each week are discussion topics related to raising your puppy. The topics include housebreaking, nutrition, grooming, and health care.

This is a six-week course. The puppy comes to all classes. All family or house members are encouraged to come to class.

Beginner Obedience Class

This class is for dogs 4 1/2 months and older. The class is designed to teach you how to teach your dog. Does your dog bolt through open doors, pulls on leash, acts silly at the vet's office, or jumps on people? Then this class might be for you and your dog. The lessons include teaching sit, down, stand, stay, come when called, greeting people (sit to greet), greeting other dogs and walking nicely on leash. This class is similar to puppy kindergarten but we expect more and add more distractions during the training.

This is a seven-week course. The dog does not come to the first class. The first class is combined with all sections and meets for two hours, usually 7 to 9 p.m. All family or house members are encouraged to come to class.

Intermediate Obedience/Canine Good Citizen Class

This class is for dogs six months or older. The class builds on the Beginner class. We add more and tougher distractions to behaviors the dog knows. The class includes teaching the dog to heel and working off leash. The class also works on the 10 exercises given in the AKC's Canine Good Citizenship Test. Different games are played to reinforce the exercises.

This is a six-week course. The dog comes to all classes.

Advanced Obedience Class

This class is for dogs six months and older. The class is designed to prepare the dog and handler team for obedience competition. This class can also be used to improve the dog responding to the owner. Most of the time in class is dedicated to working on the various aspects of the Companion Dog Title. This includes heeling, figure eights, stand for exam, come when called, sit and down stays. Various games are played to reinforce the exercises.

This is a six-week course. The dog comes to all classes.

Rally Obedience Class

This class introduces students to the different maneuvers and exercises of Rally Style Obedience. Rally Obedience is the combination of obedience maneuvers using the flow and interaction of agility. It includes simple items like forward, halt, left and right turns and more complicated things like serpentines around cones, about U turns and more.

Prerequisites: Completion of Intermediate Class, dog must have concept of heeling.

Advanced Rally/Competition Obedience Class

This class covers the advanced maneuvers and exercises of upper levels for Rally Style Obedience and competition exercises for the companion dog title. It includes precision heeling, pivots, send over jump while heeling, figure 8, and working around distractions.

Prerequisites: Completion of Intermediate or Rally Class, dog must have concept of heeling.

Agility

Join the fastest growing dog sport in the US. Dog agility is fun for handlers and dogs and is an excellent way to encourage obedience while enjoying time with your dog. Beginner Agility classes is in a small group format and will focus on introducing you to the sport and your dog to the equipment, such as jumps, tunnels, see-saw, table, a-frame, etc. For more information on agility, go to www.k9web.com. Advanced Beginner Class builds on the Beginner Class concentrating on sequences and basic handling skills. Intermediate Class does advanced sequences and handling skills.

Tricks Class

This class is for dogs of any age that have completed Puppy Kindergarten or Beginner class. The class is designed to teach the handler how to teach the puppy various tricks. The tricks include give paw, use paw to push things, roll over, open a mail box, weave between legs, push a skate board, etc.

Special Lecture Classes

These lectures are for discussion purposes without the dogs in attendance.
Having Problems with Your Dog: This is a discussion of problems or questions you have about training or raising your dog. Bring your problems and we will discuss possible solutions.
Owning Your First Pet: Discussion of how to find a puppy or a rescue. We will also discuss questions you should ask and things to look for in a new pet.
Now you have a new puppy: What do you do with a new puppy or dog before you can get into dog training classes. This is a discussion of how you can start the dogs training and socialization before attending classes.

Private Instruction and Consultations

Private lessons are available upon request for any age of dog. Private lessons can be designed to meet your specific needs.
